The early days of Heathcote Engadine Baptist Church (HEBC) saw only 17 members meeting in the little white house that used to be Heathcote RSL Club – a very stark contrast to last year’s 50th anniversary dinner, which saw hundreds of members, past and present, meeting at another RSL Club, in Engadine, to celebrate. But, besides a growing congregation size, other elements of HEBC have also developed and expanded since it first opened it’s doors.
Today, if you were to walk into the church – yes, we do have our own church building now – you would be welcomed by people that not only stand for Jesus Christ, but also for each other as a family, shown through many of our ministries. One of these is Heathdene Preschool, which opened in 1974, and is the only mainstream preschool in Sutherland Shire to have an early-intervention unit or special-needs class. And, in July 1994, the church began it’s now infamous QClub, a kid’s holiday program now run annually in the winter school holidays, which welcomes up to 300 kids per year and also inspired our weekly Qkid’s ministries: QWave, Q56, QK2girls and QBranch. Other programs that HEBC has run for many years also include the Compassion and Meal Ministries, which help people in the community who are in crisis or experiencing difficulty. In 2014, we are proud to be able to offer countless events and ministries to suit a wide variety of needs and age groups, and we’d love to welcome you into our family next Sunday.
