Derek Kidner begins his excellent 1964 Tyndale Commentary by explaining why we need the Proverbs. Roughly paraphrased he says; There are details of character too small to escape the mesh of the law but too large for the broad-strokes of the Prophets.  The reality is we need something in between the Law and the Prophets to give us the skills we need, not to make us righteous (for only God can do that) rather to give us the Skills To Live as righteous people outside of the Garden in this fallen world.  We trust that this 10 part series on chapters 1 to 9 of Proverbs will help you live to glorify our great God in His world.

The New Testament book commonly known as “The Acts of the Apostles” is an important bridge between the gospels and the epistles.  Although the author never discloses his name, we can see that his introduction in ch1:1 links this book to the Gospel According to Luke (ch1:1), therefore we take it that Dr. Luke was the author.  Three main themes seem to dominate this history book:
(i) Apologetics – giving an answer as to who Jesus is;
(ii) Paul’s Conversion – the miraculous turn-about of the antagonist Saul, to Paul the defender of the faith;
(iii) The Spread of the Gospel – from the opening verses (1:8) we see that God’s eternal plan was that all nations would hear the gospel and come to believe in Jesus.
We look forward to walking with you through this Moving (emotional and geographical) Message.

This short series on the Creation Ordinances was given to help us think through such things as why we work? What’s our responsibility for the environment? What is marriage and what’s our responsibility in having children? What is the ultimate goal of all of God’s creating activity and how am I to respond to it today in the light of what Christ has done for the church (including me).
In creating the universe the Lord established a covenant. Like all covenants the covenant of creation came with stipulations (ordinances) along with blessings for those who obey. These ordinances and blessings are for ALL mankind: From every age, race, religion and tongue. The aim of the series was to remind ourselves of the benefits and blessings of joyful obedience to God’s creation ordinances.

I wonder what your memories are of Sunday School. Loud singing? Watered down cordial? Random crafts and colouring in sheets?  What about the Bible stories? Those heroes of old, people who almost seemed perfect. Almost…
For whatever reason, we can often have rose-tinted memories of these stories and people. But the reality is far more real. Flawed heroes, big problems, endings that aren’t entirely happy. These are not your mother’s Sunday School stories.

Music is such a big part of society; it’s used to express a wide range of emotions from anger in protest songs, to history, anxiety and naturally love. The Psalter is no different except it is the divine inspired word of God, which the Lord has graciously given to His people in order to learn how to express ourselves in ways that is not only healthy for us as we await the Lord’s return, but also honours Him. We trust that these six Psalms which we’ve titled “Songs For The Season” are helpful.

Luke was not only a physician but a great historian.  Dr Luke’s aim is to give us an accurate and well-ordered account of God’s saving act in history.  His style would have appealed to the educated, the medically minded as well as the neglected of his day; The Children, the poor and women.  Being guided by Luke, our aim is to make the journey from Jesus’ birth all the way to his death and subsequent resurrection and along the way the doctor will include time indicators and place names to firmly fix his message.  We trust this journey will be a fruitful one for you as it was for us.
